Sennheiser have recently introduced the MKE 600 shotgun microphone. The MKE 600 is a shotgun microphone suitable for on-camera mounting. It is quite a tidy microphone. It has the option of Phantom Powering via the XLR or internal powering using a single AA cell. It also has a switchable bass roll-off to help reduce wind noise.
We are supplying this mic bundled with either a Rycote Universal Camera Kit and short XLR cable, or with a Rycote Softie and a short Sennheise XLR to 3.5mm mini-jack cable.
Our XLR kit is best for those working with cameras equipped with an XLR mic input, and the 3.5mm kit is best suited for those who work with a camera with only a 3.5mm input!

Roland R-26, Portabrace and Rycote Bundle
We have just put together a special bundle of the Roland R-26, The Portabrace AR-26 and the great Rycote Portable Recorder Suspension/Windjammer Kit and added it to our website.
The Rycote comprises of a windjammer made to fit the R-26, a Lyre suspension and a handle. A nifty little hotshoe mount is included in the Rycote Kit should you wish to mount this on the top of your camera!
The Portabrace AR-26 is what you would expect from Portabrace, a comprehensive cover with openings and flaps everywhere so you can access all the connectors, all the flaps, and all the switches. The front flap opens and has a thin clear plastic membrane so you can operate the touchscreen and the front panel controls while still keeping the recorder in the case.

TIMECODE CABLES
We have some useful cables from Ambient that allow you to do some nifty things with timecode.
They have BNC or Lemo connectors on one end and 3.5mm connectors on the other.
For instance we have one that has a locking 3.5mm connector so you can use a Sennheiser Evolution system to send timecode...
There is also a handy BNC to 3.5mm cable that has a 40dB pad built-in. This cable allows you to lay down timecode on Audio 2 of a non-timecode camera such as a DSLR.
The video below is an Avid tutorial showing how to sync video shot in this way with audio recorded on a stand alone timecode recorder.

These seem to be the more popular sizes, we can get other sizes in quickly.
What we like the most about these cases over the competition are the clasps. They seem to be a lot easier to open, they close securely but their unique design means they can be opened with light fingertip pressure.

Another product that has escaped being added to our website is the Nomad range of recorders from Zaxcom. We have sold a few of these, and we get a lot of enquiries about them. We had a demo of one a couple of months ago, so we know a tiny bit more about them now than we did.
The Nomad is quite impressive, and Zaxcom seem to be quite ambitious with regards the new features they hope to add via software updates in the future.
The LCD systems from Micron are shipping from stock with your choice of Tram or Cos 11 microphones.
The units ship with pre-programmed inter-mod free channel sets, and the LCD can be used to show battery remaining, audio level, RF strength, display name, frequency, setup etc.
They are 100 channel systems and can be tuned in 25KHz steps. And obviously, we are shipping these to work with TV Ch. 38 (the pre-programmed channels cover TV channels 38, 39, 40 and 41)

Audio recently brought out a single channel Diversity receiver in their Envoy En2 range.
We are bundling it with the PRO transmitter, a Tram TR50 and output cable.
The Envoy DX and TX are both powered by a single AA battery. With our bundle you have the option of externally powering the receiver.
This bundle is ideal to use as a single channel camera link as the transmitter can also be externally powered as it is fitted with a small multi-pin connector.
We have the Sound Devices PIX 240 HD-SDI / HDMI recorders back in stock at last. These have been popular and all the stock that we have managed to get in recently have been turned straight round to satisfy orders.

Micron have announced a new product in their Explorer 100 Series range, the Explorer LCD.
This like its brother the BSDR has a smaller transmitter (only 76mm tall) but both the TX and the RX sport LCD displays that allow you to set the frequencies, check audio and battery levels etc.
We don't have them in stock yet, but we are taking orders and will be able to give you an idea of a shipping date when you place an order.

SOUND DEVICES PIX 240 HD Video Recorder
This little recorder has turned into a great tool, it adds Quicktime recording using Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD to any HDMI, or HD-SDI equipped high-definition video cameras.
Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHD video formats have emerged as industry standards. These I-frame codecs offer the best in picture quality, processing efficiency, and data storage requirements. They are ideal for editing, on-the-fly color grading, and video processing. Files recorded in the field on a PIX recorder are ready for the most popular editorial workflows.
The PIX 240 supports Embedded Audio on HDMI (2-chan) and HD-SDI (8-chan), AED, and Analogue audio. It also has Timecode In & Out, Stereo Line Out, HDMI In & Out, HD-SDI In & Out. The Timecode generator/reader in the Pix 240 is by Ambient, it includes Genlock and as expected is of very high standard!
We are very impressed with this little recorder, it has two pairs of mics on the top of the recorder, a pair of omnis and a pair of cardioids in an XY pattern. It also sports a pair of XLR/JACK inputs, and a 3.5mm input.
The input controls can be ganged, and the inputs can be configured to work in M/S!
You can record any combination of on-board mics/inputs, up to a total of SIX tracks of audio.
The device records onto widely available SD/SDHC memory cards.
Almost forgot, there is also quite a nifty binaural microphone/headphone kit to go with this recorder. Pop the little dearies into your ears, plug them into the recorder, and you are off, recording '3D' binaural audio location sound effects!

We are currently taking pre-orders for the latest Lockit box from Ambient, the ACL 204. We have ordered a batch, and Ambient are expecting to start shipping them in the New Year.
The ACL 204 is a big step forward from previous Lockit boxes, the 204 has a menu setup system, a display so you can see the code/config and a built-in transceiver.
It also has two TC outputs, ideal for 3D rigs which utilise two cameras.
This latest offering from Fostex gives you better quality mic inputs on your iPhone 4 thus allowing you to capture better quality audio... It also comes with a pair of little bendy microphones.
As you can see in the photo, it adds a (cold) hot shoe to your iphone, and it also has two threaded tripod mounts, one for horizontal mounting and the other for vertical mounting.
We can add Rycote Furries to your order, or even a Rycote Portable Recorder Suspension module to further reduce handling noise.
This mic sounds really natural, a leap forward in design from the warrior that is used by every man and his dog, the humble '416'. It has a new-design interference tube, with a much nicer off-axis sound than the 416.
Are you ready for digital audio? The MKH 8060 is! We can supply an AES42 module, the MZD 8000 that can be used instead of the supplied XLR module.
The MZD 8000 will interface directly with your Sound Devices 788 or Deva recorders and allow you to collect digital audio from source.
AES42 is a variant of AES audio that carries phantom power to your microphone from the mixer.
Once again, I digress! The 8060 is shorter than a 416, and can fit in the shorter Rycote Windjammer Kit 3. And guess what, we already sell this microphone, in a bundle, with a Rycote KIT 3! Howzat for service?!

OLYMPUS LS-5 HAND HELD RECORDER
We were quite taken by how solid these are, they have a metal case, and for this type of product - a small hand held digital recorder - they definitely have the best 'feel' to them than any other we have had in to date.

The CL-9 is the much anticipated and long awaited 'must-have' accessory for the Sound Devices 788T. We get asked about this type of accessory almost daily by all the golden ears who either own or are getting 788Ts.
Simply put, the CL-9 will streamline and simplify the sound mixer's rig for working on features/drama and music.
Its key (and most obvious) feature is the eight long-throw faders, one for each input, also from the 'desk' you can control the 'gain trim', solo functions, routing, eq, stop and start recording, slate mic... the list goes on!
The CL-9 is connected to and powered simply from the 788T via a USB connection, it is as simple as that to hook up and use!
To take advantage of some of the extra monitoring functions available via the 'desk', hook up the headphone out from the 788T to the rear of the CL-9, and plug your cans in the front. Also on the rear of the CL-9 are a pair of input XLRs for Two-Track tape return. There is a handy switch on the 'desk' to allow you to switch to the Return input for a quick confidence check. These are just some of the new features available via the CL-9.

It has been a busy few weeks here at Soundkit Towers, we locked our IT gimp in a darkened room and threw the odd biscuit at him until he produced this new website.
Email confirmations of orders placed are working again. And we hope the website has a slightly fresher look to it.
We have taken out some of the obsolete products and fixed some prices. We still have a load of product to add to the website over the coming weeks.
An amazing bit of kit from Schoeps, it is exceptionally directional, and has the sort of sound you would expect from any Schoeps microphone. And to top the lot, its output is AES 42 (The Phantom Powered AES Standard). Some kit can connect to this mic directly, Deva and Sound Devices spring to mind.

We have seen these poles at various trade shows over the years and given their exceptional quality we just knew that we had to stock them for you guys and gals in Film & TV land.
The first thing that strikes you when you grab one is the finish, these are very finely engineered poles.
The second thing that strikes you is the ease with which the rings lock and unlock and the smoothness with which the pole extends.
But the most impressive is the strength and rigidity of the pole... this is the most rigid carbon fibre pole that we have seen.

The evolution wireless series has undergone both technical and design changes.
The most obvious change that will affect you is on the pocket receivers... they now feature what Sennheiser call 'Adaptive Diversity reception', the audio output cable is rather clever and now acts as a second antennae giving the unit 'adaptive diversity' capability!
Some other clever stuff exists also like being able to sync a transmitter to a receiver allowing for quicker setup times on location.
This lovely new mixer hot from the labs at Sound Devices HQ is the same size as a 442, lighter than the 442, has selectable Analogue / AES outputs on XLR, and even boasts an on board Two-Track SD card Digital Recorder with TIMECODE IN!
It has all the features of the 442 and I forgot to mention, it is a 5 channel mixer as implied by its name!

Those boffins at Sound Devices just don't stop working. But, they were recently let out of their laboratories to visit the NAB 2009 expo at Vegas to show off their latest offering, the 256GB SOLID STATE version of the very popular 788T, it seems that they can not stop making this fantastic recorder better! It seems that it was only yesterday when they announced the firmware upgrade for existing 788Ts and the CL-8 fader module which when combined make the 788T into a 8+4 track recorder - that is eight physical tracks to disk and 4 virtual tracks to EDL as a 'virtual mix' - ideal for a guide stereo or sub mix to save time later in the edit/dub.
At NAB this year they were proud to show off the latest enhancement... a 256GB Solid State Drive to replace the existing 160Gb Hard Drive that the 788T previously shipped with. As you would expect, the new SSD boasts faster transfer speeds and superior shock immunity.
We have gone one step further, we are now offering the 788T-SSD with the CL-8 all wrapped up in a CS-4 production bag but also supplied with a custom made ATC umbilical cable
The ATC umbilical is a fantastic add-on to those who work as a tethered sound recordist, it carries a stereo mix to camera, a stereo return and timecode. It allows you to use your 788T recorder as a field mixer, but with the added bonus of being able to multi-track all of your sources at the same time. The only disadvantage is that the camera return will require one or two of your 788T's inputs, they can be excluded from the multi-track recording and the mix, and selecting to monitor those inputs will, in-effect, enable a 'camera-return' monitor... brilliant and simple!

It's not often that we get excited about a new product that we stock here at Soundkit.
The Edirol F1 is one such product that has impressed us no end - in its heart it is a simple device - what it achieves is quite remarkable.
The Edirol F1 will connect to your camera when shooting on location using a Firewire cable - it will record the video in either HDV or DV, and the two on-board audio channels from the camera, onto its internal (removable) drive... it also sports two XLRs (selectable mic or line level) giving a total of four audio tracks.
Every time you hit the record button on the camera the F1 simultaneously rolls making it a true plug -and-play (and forget) solution. And finally we have added some of the more popular Audio Technica gun mics to our catalogue. We have sold a few of these over the years but never got round to listing them... Some of the more popular are the affordable Stereo BP4029 with Rycote Windshield, and the Audio Technica AT897 gun mic.
We have in stock the range of Audio Technica headphones... including the budget ATH-M20, and ATH-M30 models.
These cans are of the 'closed-ear' design and isolate ambient sound for the wearer. They are fitted with 3.5mm stereo mini-jack plugs and hence are ideal for use with wireless director monitoring/IEM systems (they are also supplied with a 1/4" adaptor).
The ATH-M30 and the ATH-M50 ship with loveley metal 3.5mm mini-jacks and a locking 1/4" adaptor whilst the ATH-M50 ships with a protective pouch and is fitted with a coily cable.

News came in just before the holidays about a stunning solid state recorder from Marantz, the Marantz PMD661 Portable SD Recorder, it is a highly robust, versatile professional handheld PCM / MP3 recorder.
This is the first hand-held solid state recorder on the market to sport balanced switchable mic/line inputs with switchable phantom on XLR! Cold weather battery problems?

In the USA the FCC, just this month, passed a new ruling that had only been proposed recently by the Chairman of the FCC. This ruling bans the use of any wireless microphone (licensed or not) above 700 MHz after the DTV transition in February 2009!
